HOWL
SUMMER WRITING SCHOOL
A season of personal and collective writing.
Opportunity for all works to be included in the first Howl chapbook at the end of the series.
Meeting for four two-hour sessions, Tuesdays from 6:30 - 8:30 pm.
JUNE :: LIFE'S A POEM!
[6/9, 6/16, 6/23, 6/30]
A living writing experiment where we each select and reflect on a symbol and see the mysterious ways life decides to mirror them back to us. In this course, we practice embodied meaning-making and learn to translate symbolic experiences into poetic expression.
JULY :: THE RIVER: STREAMS OF CONSCIOUSNESS
[7/7, 7/14, 7/21, 7/28]
With the river as our muse, we will go underneath the thinking mind and into the subterranean self. Stream of consciousness is anti-writing. The final work will belong entirely to the current, as morphic and alive as the river itself. Includes a session writing riverside.
AUGUST :: BEND MYTHOLOGY ANTHOLOGY
[8/4, 8/11, 8/18, 8/25]
Mythology lives in all times and places. In this course, we gather to uncover Bend's. We will weave together an anthology of short stories, a gathering of myths, memories and meanings this place holds for the people who live here.
Instruction by Seneca Jakosky
Seneca Jakosky moved to Bend to be with family and bring to life her multimedia internet-bound book/theory about language, media, perception and transaction. She is particularly interested in the translation and transition from the page to the screen, the relationship between body and interface, and she works across mediums (writing, film, music, painting, and ceramics) to get to the root of linguistic representation and creative expression. Her work will be self-published later this year on The Web.
Seneca has a Masters degree in Creative Writing, Publishing, and Editing from the University of Melbourne, as well as a life’s worth of thinking, musing, and writing.
“It is a delight and a dream to share my philosophy on writing with the lovely people of Bend.”
